Gameplay[ edit ] Destiny gameplay Destiny’s style has been described as a first-person shooter that incorporates role-playing and MMO elements, but Bungie has avoided describing Destiny as a traditional MMO game. MMO’s have had matchmaking for all levels of content for years now and sure, you are gonna get morons from time to time but every day people clear raids in multiple MMO’s from matchmaking. There is no excuse for not having matchmaking simply make voice chat always on. People don’t have to talk obviously, just make them listen Vote kick option sorts out troublemakers who blast music etc.
FFXIV and WoW have matchmaking for content with way more mechanics and coordination required than anything in destiny and thousands of people use it every day.

Sep 6, at Bungie is looking to remedy that with what they call Guided Games. Guided Games is a new feature found in Destiny 2 designed to make it easier for solo players to experience the raid content found in Destiny 2. You do this through a matchmaking screen of sorts but there are some slight changes. This allows the clan to fill out their roster and the solo player to have a team to complete the raid with. The next option is for solo players to apply for clans that have themselves open to guided games.
These options are designed to make grouping for raids a lot easier. In a way, that just adds to the experience. Bungie Guided Games will work with Raids, Trials and Nightfall Strikes so any tough endgame content will now become a lot easier and more accessible to all players. Guided Games is being rolled out in what is being called a soft-beta. In order for Guided Games to work as intended, players will need time to form clans and be ready to actually guide the other players.
As a result, only a select number of players will have access to Guided Games starting with the Nightfall on September This allows Bungie to see how the system is working and to allow more players to enter based on how it works.

No new raid though. This might make some people angry. Because I hardly ever play raids. Online multiplayer and matchmaking algorithms have been a staple of multiplayer gaming ever since Blizzard invented Battle. Missions that are nearly impossible to complete alone. Missions that, by definition, require a team to defeat. Oh… and good luck getting past level 28ish without playing any of those. We solved this problem when the internet looked like this.
They require planning, strategy, and teamwork. This—you may realize if you have half a brain—results in strangers who have never met nor played before playing raids; which you may recognize as the exact thing Bungie wanted to avoid. And you know what? People compete in those raids all the time and have fun! There are puzzles to be solved, difficult terrain to cross, enemies that require synchronized attacks to defeat, etc.

The plot is shallow, filled with characters that are generic, lifeless, and utterly devoid of any reason as to why you might care about them. The main baddy, Gaul, has no motivation for anything he does other than “he’s a bad guy”, no backstory, and no reason for doing anything he does. The NPC protagonists are lifeless, flat, 2-dimensional objects who serve no purpose except as narrative devices to further what can only generously be called a plot.
The voice acting is awful, with the exception of Nathan Fillion, and even he is forced to work with bad, non-sensical writing robots don’t eat, so why a joke about shooting the big baddy in the head and then eating a sandwich? The strikes are boring and linear. Run here, kill some of them, get to the end, kill a boss that is just a scaled up version of one of the thousands of baddies you’ve killed up to that point. The gameplay consists of just putting as many bullets downrange as possible while occasionally meleeing when things get too close.
There is never any sense of tension or risk in this game, because you can either respawn immediately after you die thanks to having “The Light”, or respawn 10 feet further back because the game implemented a checkpoint system for areas where “respawning is limited.
